Tell us about your work with seabirds.
I recently graduated from a master's program at Memorial University of Newfoundland where I studied population structure and philopatry in Atlantic Puffins using RAD Sequencing techniques, a project that I developed from the ground up. Before that I worked with a variety of other seabirds over the course of my 10+ year career, including Common Murre and Caspian Terns.
What advice would you offer to individuals aspiring to pursue a career as seabird scientists?
Seabirds have such a special place in my heart, studying them fills me with wonder and reminds me that there is still so much to learn about the natural world. If you are a person that loves intersectionality in the natural world and are constantly curious and wanting to learn, studying seabirds may be for you.
